carya triclinium mensa
A coveted and signature wood type for us, this live edge pecan dining table could not be more special. When those-in-the-know see the size of the pecan slabs we have they are in disbelief of the quality and size. We rescued this wood from a storm-fallen tree near Athens, Georgia that otherwise would have been chopped up and hauled away and have just a few of these giant pecan slabs remaining.
The size and structure of this piece is a perfect showcase for a dining room table. The dark aged steel legs feature a solid base and modern organic design which showcases the beauty of the wood.
Pecan has a storied history and is well known for it's popular nut, especially in the South. Pecan wood provides a straight to slightly wavy grain with a low luster, giving it a beautiful finish and patina. Pecan wood is among the hardest and strongest wood found in the U.S., making it particularly difficult to work with and requiring always-sharp tools and a patient hand. This slow-growing and beautiful tree also makes it more rare among furniture pieces.
